Parks Computers: iPhone 4 Review

Parks Computers review of the Apple’s iPhone 4. I was a Android user for more than a year and half. Starting with the Motorola Droid then upgrading to the Motorola Droid 2. I liked the Android operating system. I liked the ability to customize the software. I didn’t like the phone locking up all the time. I didn’t like the music app, I also didn’t like the inability to uninstall apps that Verizon preinstalled (Apple does the same thing).   I didn’t like just after a few months dust got under the screen of my Droid 2. I use my phone a lot for eMail, Twitter, Facebook and listening to Podcast. Now after having my iPhone for 8 days I can say I like the phone. Compared to the Droid 2 the iPhone hasn’t locked up once. Also the iPhone did come with preinstalled apps from Apple which I can’t delete which I do not understand why. The iPhone is unable to download podcast at a preset time. Also it has to be on Wifi to download music, video, or podcast over 20mg. The Droid 2 could do this anytime I set it.  Also the iPhone doesn’t allow me to have a select phone number to ring even if the phone is muted.  Now the iPhone does have a killer music player.  The droid 2 music player would forget what I was listening to.  Also it wasn’t designed for a touch screen.  The stop or pause button is just under the bar to set where you want to start playing.  Which meens many times you lose your place in the podcast.  The iPhone has find my iPhone (for free) and remote erase of your iPhone if you lose it.  For me that is the biggest thing,  I don’t like having my eMail, twitter and so on passwords available for anyone to find if I lose my phone.  Also the iPhone has the 10 times password try then erase.  Also very big for me.  The iPhone doesnt’ come with a turn by turn GPS navigation for free like my droid 2 did but it does offer for a low price TomTom or Garmin option.  Which I feel pretty good about because they update it often and both are good names in the business.  The next Android problem is the manufacturers not keeping up with Google’s updates.  My Droid 2 came with Froyo version 2.2.  Gingerbread version 2.3 came out and nothing from Motorola.  HTC even spoke about version 2.4 so I bet the Droid and Droid 2 users will be left behind.  At least when Apple releases the next version of IOS they release it for the older phones.  I don’t like being left behind when the Droid 2 is only 6 months old.  I think both of these platforms are great.  Apple keeps a heavy hand on the iPhone.  I don’t like this because it is there phone not mine.  Google doesn’t push hard enough and you have fifty phones under six months with 4 different version of the software.  Over all I was able to sell my Droid 2 to Gazelle.com for $159.00.  The price was $189.00 plus a coupon I had but because of the dust under the screen they dropped it to $159.00.  Over all I am happy I upgraded to the iPhone.  I wonder what Apple will release in June or July and what new enhancements will come with IOS5.  Would I recommend you upgrade now or wait?  If you want to get a iPhone and have a old phone you want to sell before you purchase it then go to Gazelle.com and sell your phone fast and buy an Iphone 4.   If not wait until June or July for the iPhone 5.
